One of the most significant recommendat ions of theNat ional Cu r r icu lum Fr amewor k (NCF)-2005 is the mathemat isat ion of the child’s thou ght processes.In acheiving this goal, concrete mathemat ical exper iencesplay a maj or r ol e.A ch i l d i s mot i vat ed t o l earnmathematics by get t ing involved in handling various concrete manipulants in var ious act ivit ies.In addit ion to act ivit ies, games in mathemat ics also help the child’s involvement in lear ning by st rategising and reasoning.For lear ning mathemat ical concepts through the abovementioned approach, a child-cent red Mathemat ics kit has been developed for the students of Secondary stage based on some of the concepts from the newly developed NCERT mathemat ics textbooks. The kit includes var ious kit items along with a man u al for p er for min g act ivities.The kit broadly covers the act ivities in the areas of geomet ry, algebra, t r igonometry and mensurat ion.

ACTIVITY 1 : To form different angles and measurethem.

ACTIVITY 2 : To ver ify the relat ion of different pairsof angles formed by a t ransversal with two parallel lines.

ACTIVITY 3 : To explore the proper t ies of a t r iangle.

ACTIVITY 4 : To verify the mid-point theorem “A linejoining the mid points of a t r iangle isparallel to the third side and half of it”

ACTIVITY 5 : To ver ify that a line drawn through the mid-point of one side and parallel to the second side bisects the third side.

ACTIVITY 6 : To ver ify th e basic propor t ionali ty

theorem.

ACTIVITY 7 : To ver ify that a line dividing two sides of a t r ian gle in t h e same r at io is parallel to the third side.

ACTIVITY 8 : To ex plor e var iou s pr oper t i es of different types of quadr ilaterals

ACTIVITY 9 : To ver ify that a quadr ilateral formed by joining the mid-points of the sides of a quadr ilateral taken in order, is a parallelogram.

ACTIVITY 10 : To for m d i f fer en t sh ap es on a geoboard and explore their areas.

ACTIVITY 11 : To ver ify that the rat io of areas of two similar t r iangles is equal to the rat io of squ ares of their cor responding sides.

ACTIVITY 12 : To ver ify that median of a t r iangle divides it in two t r iangles of equal area.

(a) lying on the same base.

(b) lying between the same paralles but not on the same base.

(c) l yi n g on t h e same b ase & between the same parallels

ACTIVITY 14 : To ver ify that t r iangles on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area.

ACTIVITY 15 : To ver ify parallelograms on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area.

ACTIVITY 16 : To ver ify that for a t r iangle and a parallelogram on the same base and between the same parallels, the area of triangle is half the area of parallelogram.

ACTIVITY 17 : To explore area of triangle,parallelogram and t rapezium.

ACTIVITY 18 : To ver ify Pythagoras theorem.
